LG cu500

I bought it, I'm stuck with it for 2 years now. Here are my impressions and notes on how to get the most from an LG cu500

Pros

  • Good Camera
  • Video & Picture messaging
  • Responsive UI
  • Bluetooth with lots of profiles
    • HSP
    • HFP
    • DUN
    • OPP
    • FTP
    • A2DP
    • AVRC
  • Micro SD Memory card slot
  • MP3 Player & MP3 Ringtones (& WMA AAC, AAC+)
  • Speakerphone
  • HSPDA (If you're willing to pay around ~$50 / mo extra for it!)

Cons

  • No voice dialing!
  • The 2.5mm jack does not support stereo as far as I can tell (If you want to listen to stereo music, you need a Bluetooth A2DP stereo device to pair with it)
  • Bluetooth is only v1.1
  • Some reports indicate that only SanDisk memory cards work
  • The memory card slot is behind the battery - so you have to power down, remove battery, swap card, replace battery, power up just to change memory cards.
  • Cingular either neglected or intentionally excluded the software to sync the phone with the PC
  • Syncing over Bluetooth doesn't appear to work well without a memory card installed

Tips

  • Disable Bluetooth when not in use to save battery life ( Options Softkey > 1 > 1 > 2 )

Sync LG cu500

Again, Cingular either neglected or intentionally excluded the software to sync the phone with the PC. However the same phone tweaked for another market (Australia) & carrier does provide the software, which works perfectly with the cu500.

  1. Get a properly working data cable - many of the cheapo ebay/amazon cables do not work properly even if they explicitly say so
  2. Get & Install the software
    1. Click on the picture of the TU500 Phone
    2. Click the Manuals & Software tab
    3. Right click TU500.zip and “Save Target As”
